It depends on the trans, it has to have a removable bell housing. I think it's the W56 trans? Mine came from an 87 4runner... had to find a 5MGE bell housing to put the two together. There's a site that has the breakdown of most of the trans/T-case combos, can't remember it now. I Googled 5MGE swap and it's the first one to come up. You can find swap pages if you spend some time looking, usually just after the eyestrain starts... ow. But the info is all out there.

5mge swap

I did this on my truck about a 2 years ago, you can use a w or g series manual tranny. 4x4wire.com has the write up. The wiring is the pain part but you still have to move your fuel lines, have a custom exhuast built, move the motor mounts, wire an electric fan, modify the radiator. It is easier to put these into an 84 or later because the engine bay is slightly longer. I can't find my camera or I would send you some pick. I personally move the two supra fuse panels into my truck and wired the truck panels into inner supra panel but mine is an 82 so it had a little fuse panel under the dash, not enough fuses to run everything for this motor. One other flaw I found was the powersteering pump leaks right on top of the exhuast on steep inclinesbecause it is a top mount resivor instead of a remote like the trucks.

torque wise this thing walks all over 22rs hands down, it has almost twice the torque and hp. I am running 38s with 4.88 and two stock t cases it is still torquie if you can find a 7mge they are even better, the 7mgte wouldn't be worth it because of the turbo needs 2500 rpm and all the extra innercooler plumbing would drive you nuts.

If you haven't already, there is a bunch of good info on Rob's site www.supracharged.com. He doesn't update it all the time since he's a busy guy, but it's still a good source of info.
