My friend just bought an 1983 toyota pick up and he wants to lift it. Whats the easiest and cheapest way to lift it a few inches. I have some 1989-1991 ford ranger 1-ton leafs just laying around, would that do anything? Thanks :redspotda

Longer shackles would probably be the cheapest and easiest. I would imagine one ton leaf springs would be way too stiff.

I swapped a pair of Ranger leafs into a 1988 Toyota 4x4. I didn't really see any lift but the stock ranger leafs are longer and have a little more articulation than the stock Toyota leafs. I had to move the front spring hanger a little bit forward as well as the rear hanger back a little. I don't really think that Ranger leafs are worth going through the trouble to swap out with the Toyota ones. What kind of off roading does your friend do? If you want to rock crawl, like about 98% of the people who are members of this site, than I would probably get some Alcans (even though I think they suck). Without a doubt the cheapest way to lift a truck a few inches is to put lift blocks on it, I definantly don't recommend it, but it is the cheapest way.

wut's wrong with alcan's? if you get them from aor with orbit eyes, they are just about the best leaf springs you can buy. they are very expensive though and he said he wanted cheap. a cheap way to get some lift and better flex is to put 1/2 ton 63" chevy springs in the back and take the stock rear springs and put them upfront. there's alot more too it than that but now you know wut to >>search<< for.

Sorry Toy4x4 I picked up a pair of 56" Alcans from a friend who barly used them and I broke them after about 2 weeks and had to upgrade to a set of 62" Nationals. I wasn't impressed with them. I think orbit eye springs are a good idea but since I broke the other set, I think they are trash. I use them for different reasons than rockcrawling though.
