hey everyone, im new to this site and need help with my drivetrain. i have a 92' pickup x-cab 4x4 V6 auto and the tranny just went out. i was wanting to convert it into a 4-banger 5-speed cuz gas is so high anyway, so i guess it was an omen. anyway i can get an 85' 22R with 80K on it for a good price, but i still need to find a tranny but thats not going to be a problem. what i need to know is, is if that motor will go into my truck and if the tranny will bolt up to my transfer case that i have now and since the auto shifter is on the floor i figured the stick would come up through the stock location. also i am going to have to put a clutch pedeal in it as well. any info on this little project would be a definate plus. thanks for helping me out!!! keep the yotas runnin!!! best little trucks ive ever had!!!

Putting a 22r into a V6 truck is going to reqire some extensive fabrication, i know for sure the motor mounts are different, and you will have to replace all kinds of other stuff thats not going to line up in the correct place (such as the radiator). the transfer from the auto tranny will not bolt up to a 4 cylinder transmission, not only are they completely different, i think the auto tranny might be the one that is a one piece (tranny and t-case) assembly, making it impossible to seperate them. The other thing is that the V6 t-cases are chain drive, which is weaker than the gear drive cases that came behind 22r's. If you are set on this swap plan on alot of work, some fabrication, and get the whole tranny and tcase from a 22r.

A better bet if you have to have a manual tranny would be to find a R150F 5 speed from a 3VZE V6 (what your truck has now) and install that in place of the slushbox that crapped out on you. At the minimum swapping in an manual will require 1) clutch pedal assembly 2) master cylinder 3) hydraulic lines for the clutch 4) possible modification to the flywheel 5) crossmember? im not sure if they are different between the auto and manual trannys 6) driveshaft modification? i dont know if the auto and manual trannies are the same length or not. 7) if you have an electronicly controled auto tranny (ECT) you may have to find an ECU from a similar truck with a manual, im not sure about the toyotas, but i know some vehicles with ECTs have sensors in the transmission that talk to the ECU, which may or may not have an effect on how the engine runs; all i have had are manual trannies in my Toys, so i dont really know that much about the auto transmissions, maybe somebody else can help you out a little more than i have....
