alright well i put the front of my marlin lift on and i'm getting ready to put the rear on and i was wondering what all you guys think about cutting the perches off and rotating the axle, should i do this or should i just shim the rear perches let me know what you guys think.

in the rear i would say cut and twist your axle and reweld them... every single person i talked to that hasnt done it wishes they did it or ended up doing it anyways.

so might as well do it right the first time.

2 inch spacer under the mounts works the same, give about 1 inch of lift

I'm helping him do the SAS/lift ...could you (TTR) explain why it would be better to cut and rotate the rear axle? I can see why you you would want to cut the axle housing on the front axle and rotate it in relation to the knuckles, in order to get the steering and driveline angle at decent angles. I don't see a benefit to cutting/moving the spring perches on the rear axle as the rear wheels are not effected with caster/camber with the rotation of the axle. The only thing that would change is the pinion angle and a small lift-block effect (<.5"). I don't have any real experience, so I'd just like to know your reasoning as I basically see no reason why he couldn't use a shim as shown in 4Crawler Shims (http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/Shims.shtml) especially if they were the weld-on shims

ya me and ryan have been brainstorming and about this and i still have yet to see a difference in adding the shim, spacer, things accept for it's a LOT less work i am pretty sure i'm gonna do the shim unless someone can come up with a reasonable reason not to? i don't really see why not. but the problem is my front axle, i put marlin's 4in lift spring in the front with a 2'' over stock shackles on it and the front diff is almost pointing paralelle with the frame. i don't want to cut and rotate the front but is there anyway that i can put a driveshaft in there that will work without rotating the front axle thanks guys appreciate it.

I cut and rotated my rear axle .........

To get the better pinion angle and I made the new perchs with 2" of lift built in........ to help with the chevys

But, yes, you could just use the shims from 4crawler..... I just dont like blocks.

I missed this ..........

The 2" over stock shackles and drop hanger lower everything the same, thats just about what "a stock" pinion angle should look like........

You use a "regular" drive shaft in the front, non-CV style with u-joints at both ends ........... this is where dual cases help as it makes the drive shaft longer (and that makes the angles less extream)

The drive flanges dont have to "aim" at each other with a reg drive shaft . they JUST have to be parallel........

In the rear, with the cv shaft you just "point" the drive shaft flange at the T-case.........

i don't want to have double cases just a regeared single and i think i'll have to have a cv axle because of the hard angles. a shop here told me they'd have a driveshaft made for me with 18'' of slip for like 220 so i think they'll be able to help with the angle and stuff but the rear is my problem i don't know what degree angle shim to get. with the marlin springs on then the 2'' over stock shackel the diff will be pointing a little bit toward the t case so the angle shouldn't need to be huge but i don't wanna get the wrong one.

So your going to use a CV in the rear, right.........

Do you have an angle finder, there really cheap

nah i don't have one where do you get em and how do you figure out the angle?
