My stereo was stolen not too long ago from my '89 4runner & the dirty so & sos  that stole it ripped the front of mounting box off so now as I am preparing to put a new stereo in I am pondering other mounting options such as in the center console with some sort of locking mechanism for when the top is off. (The top was on when they stole the stereo, they broke the back window to get to it) I am thinking of sealing the two compartements together in the center console so only the top lid opens & cutting out the bottom of the top compartement then running the wires under the plastic down the middle fro the original mounting spot. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

im not sure about the two compartment in ur center consel, cause i only have one in my 86, but im thinking about doing either a custom center consel with cup holders and and a custom lock box for the cd player and my other thought was putting it in the glove box, dont know about locking it but at least it wouldnt be mounted low and verticle with dirt and dust getting into it like my friends bronco has with it verticle mounted.

Does he have any problems with it ejecting cds? That was another concern of mine with mounting it vertically. I was also planning on making the center console waterproof hopefully cutting down on dirt & dust getting in also. The glove box is a good idea, but I think it would be hard to change stations when I am driving by myself, my current cd player doesn't have a remote. Thanks for the post I appreciate the help.

no he doesnt have a prob. with cd's coming out
with the glove box u would need a remote but its not much to get a good head with remote and mount the remote on ur visor or top of the center consel hatch with velcro.
if u do a custom center concel post some picts i would love to see it.
