I have a guy who wants to trade striaght up his warn hubs for my stock aisin hubs. Is this a fair trade? Or should I just keep my Aisin hubs? This is for an 81 straight axle

Assuming that they are both working, keep your stock hubs, even if his ARE the premium warn hubs. They are universally acknowledged as the strongest hubs available for a toyota axle. If yours are sticky, rebuild them... look to www.marlincrawler.com for parts, among other places.

Just for economic considerations, assuming they are both used hubs, examine the price for new hubs:
New hubs from Marlin Crawler: $291 EACH! (http://www.marlincrawler.com/axleparts.html)
The premium warn hubs are usually quoted at $170/each.

Opinions on Warn vs OEM toyota (Aisin) hubs:

An old mailing list (http://www.barneymc.com/toy_root/techtalk/whls_hub/hubs.htm)

Long story short: better is by offhand experience, with people claiming to see Warn hubs break more often.

As for me, I had warn hubs come on a vehicle I bought used. They broke, and my Aisin hubs never have :). Rather than buy new, I buy used at the local parts yard, tyipcally for $50/pair.

I used to play that game with my siblings when I was young "I'll trade you my FIVE pennies for your ONE quarter"

definitly don't do the trade, I have seen warn hubs break long before the stock hubs do. Last one I saw was a FJ 55, and he destroyed a warn hub way before I expected it to go. I have superwinch hubs on mine, which I hear are better that the warn ones, but if I do break one I am going back to stock.

Keep the stockers. There is a reason the dude wants to trade, he knows the stockers are better.

The lack of cone washers on the Warn's frequently results in the bolts coming loose, not a good thing.
