Hey Guys, Newbe to this forum..

Just had my 87' with 22r with a 4'' superlift and 3 inch body with 36''s stolen a few weeks ago.. Anyway.. I finally gave up on finding it. And bought an 85' sr5 with an all pro offroad setup and 35's And iv got a few questions. Hope you guys can help me out.

1) The Speedo cable is broken.. Where is a good place to buy a new one at a resonable price? There are not really any good toyotas in junk yards in my area. IIf I do the junk yard route.. Which ones work? Can i used varius years, 2wd/4wd? Or is it pretty specific to my truck?

2) My engine temp guage does not work. I understand there are 2 sensors, one for the Ecu and one for the Guage, both are pluged in. Would this just be a bad guage sensor, or is there another failier prone part to check on first?

3) My check engine like intermitently comes on and off. How do I pull codes from the ECU? I searched but havent been able to find any good link or tutorials on this. I'v used obd1 setups before, but im new to the 22re.

Any help would be apprichiated. Btw, My spelling sucks, im in a rush to get this post up before i leave from work. Thanks alot guys

Adam

first off, get a manual for your truck. You can usually find the check engine light codes from there (they blink in a certain pattern) I don't have my book with me atm so I can't give you them off hand.

The temp sensor on the engine probably needs to be replaced, that sensor you could probably get at any autozone. As for a spedo cable, you might want to look at a big name parts store for that too

I understand that the OBD systems blink to show codes.. But where from? Iv seen some that blink directly on the ECU, and some that blink from the check engine light.. Is there a write up, or tutorial online on how to read these?

Since its blinking on and off, the code should be stored.. Correct?

http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/codes/index.html

I found this link which seems to be pretty helpful in the code reading procedure.

So I jumped the round connector in the engine bay, and read two numbers.

A 5, and an 11. Are these seppereate codes?

5 being.. Oxogen sensor?

11 most likely being TBS?

or is it read in pairs, like 5,11 as seen in the link above? im a little lost

I have a chiltons, but frankly I hate the thing... next investment is a FSM.. and alarm, lol
