does anyone have 2nd Generation built 4cyl 4runner and are they uncommon or what cause ive been looking forever
yes 2nd gen 4runner 4cyl are very hard to find... if i found a 4cyl 2nd gen 4runner with a 5 speed and a/c id buy it so fast and build it into a rockcrawler...
or buy a v6 with a blown motor and put in a new 4cyl and tranny.

I have a 94 V6 4runner. Why is the 22re any better? Just the gas mileage compared to power (or lack there-of)? I just took my 94 stocker wheelin today and it went pretty good and minimal damage for what I put it through (bent up the running board on a stump and came down hard off a rock onto the skid plate)

the 22re is one of the best damn engines out there in my opnion, i have an 86 4runner sas, the engine has 157k and still truckin along, doesnt leak a drop of oil or any problems, there one down side is power, but it just depends on what kind of wheelin you do, rockcrawling, they are great, they can turn the low gears no problem. about 20k ago i wanted to up the output so i put a lcenginerring cam, flowmaster, and k&n high flow, this did quite a bit of difference, you could really feel the cam at the mid to high rpms just kinda pull you forward, put you in your seat a little bit. anyways, great engines, if you can find one grab it, they are alot more common in 1gen trucks and runners!
