Emergency Brake Connnection

anybody know how to get the ball at the end of the cable out of the lever? I have the new cable inserted, but I can't get end of the old cable out of the lever. It is an 89 Ext Cab V6 by the way.

ha when i did mine i cut a lil notch out because i couldnt figure that out either. cut a notch in the small handle tubing then pulled it out. that or i took the handle off and it slid out its been awhile..

There is a lever on the top of the shaft that you have to push to get the handle to slide another 1/2 inch into the housing. It's not the easiest thing to find, but it's up there. I had a heck of a time changing my cable a few years ago until I found out about it.
