I started doing a cluster swap last evening. After I removed my stock "Idiot Light" cluster, I closely inspected the copper contact areas where the wiring plugs into, at the rear of the unit. I saw where the tach wire was supposed to go on the stock unit. It was "deadended" on the printed circut. The same pin area on the unit equipped with the tach has the completed path to the screw designated as "P". Now, since my harness has the wire with the pin complete, will my tach work without further mods? When I inspected the contact areas, I saw contact marks where the wiring harness made contact with the connectors in the unit. I here guys saying they had to put a "pin" in the plug. My plug has a pin and a wire. It is not clear where that wire goes, but as I mentioned earlier, the area where that pin went on the stock unit was "deadened" and went nowhere. On the tach unit, the line goes to the "P" on the back side of the tach. The only other difference in the two printed circuit layouts were that one (the tach unit) had an extra pin conection that the other did not have. I followed it to the "Check Engine" light socket.
I have installed the oil (guage) sending unit and I am ready to plug everything in. Also the plug for the sender is universal. The two different senders have two different plug styles. The stock connector is set up for both connections. (FYI)
Is there anything else before I hook this thing up? I just want to ask before I hook it up and blow all my fuses.
