I get alot of "groaning" and "popping" in my frontend. Especially when I make a tight turn. It does it in 4x2 and 4x4. It has a less than 1 year old Rancho 4" lift. I just had it aligned about 2 months ago. I haven't run up on anything. I inspected everything and nothing looks broke. What's the deal?

do you have a broken birfield ????

broken hub ???

or maybe your trunion bearing inside your knuckle are loose and flopping around.

could be some of your balljoints on your steering that are loose.

any play in the steering arms ?

I've got the same kinda noise (popping noise) when I turn right when it's in either 2x4 or 4x4. I don't have any play in the steering.

hey I also have the same popping in my steering and it bugs the hell out of me. I have play in the steering though too. my steering gets really bumpy at times and there has always been a delayed response since I've owned it.

Check your knuckles and check for looseness/leakage in your CV boots and that whole area. Maybe time for new bushings?

All the parts you mentioned are new except the Birfields. I have a brand new pair. I was going to put those in when I put new seals in the knuckels. It seems to groan when I break really hard.

My truck used to do this as well. had nothing replaced. fixed its self. Its been my understanding its a lack of lubrication, and only happens on full right/left turns. or if its over a bump. seen a lot of cars do it (mostly older 95 and below) i dont think its really anything too bad, just annoying

I found the bushing on my sway bar were gone (missing), metal to metal. The trucks been sitting for awhile and I guess they rotted out. I'll replace this week and see if that fix's the problem.

my old 85 4-runner had this problem, then a short time after I sold it the steering box locked up. I don't know for sure that it is related, but as a safety issue I would take a look at it.

Several of my cousins and I own toyota pickups and they all do this. I recently replaced my passenger side inner and outer tie rods and it fixed the problem on that side, I haven't replaced the drivers side yet and it only does it on this side now.
