Can anyone tell me why my 22R is idling so rough? I've changed the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. I checked the timing, it wavers a little. Maybe bad tentioners or a stretched chain. That's not the problem. I just got this truck. How can you tell if it has a performance cam? I checked the vacuum out and the reading is bouncing between 15 - 17 inches. That would indicate an ignition problem. In the morning it fires right up. No problem. When I bring the RPM's up, the vacuum is srtong and steady @ 22 inches. It sounds like a damn tractor when it idles. The engine is very strong when I punch it. The idle is getting on my nerves. :cuss: And can anyone tell me what I will need when I go to do the timing chain. It seems all the parts are seperate. The timing set comes without gaskets. Sleeve? What sleeve? Some timing cover gaskets come with a sleeve. I'm new to this foriegn stuff. I've been a Chevy V-8 mechanic for nearlly all my 40 years. Now with these crazy gas prices, I had a choice, walk or drive a Toyota. Well, this fatboy ain't walkin' nowhere! :no no: Except to the fridge for a beer and a ham samich  (that's "sandwich" for all you grammer teachers). :moon:

pull the vacuum line on the egr valve. Sometimes the vacuum lines are routed incorrectly. When you pull the line it should run a lot smoother.

All the vacumm lines were removed. I live in Yuma, Arizona. We have no smog laws here. So the first thing people do is take all that stuff out. Heck, alot of people remove the catalitic converters. The EGR is there but not hooked up.
