I posted this on pirate as well, but did not get much of a response. I want to add an alarm to my truck to discourage the joy rider theft. I know they can be taken care of, but I still want one and will have other measures in place. That being said, I have heard code-alarm and crimestopper mentioned as being alarms that are better than some of the others. I have heard loud and clear to stay away from anything DEI.
Has anyone installed code-alarm or crimestopper and can you share your experience with those brands, both in installation and use.
If not, what current brands other than mentioned above should I be looking at our steering awat from?
Thanks.

I have installed many code-alarm and crimestoppers. Crimestoppers are cheap junk. Code-alarm is good but they sometimes have problems with their remotes. Prestige is what i would recommend, good value and i haven't had a problem with any of them. I would recommend an APS-996A, its a two-way meaning it will page you when your alarm goes off. It also has remote start capabilities. If you are not looking for something that fancy look for an APS-25CH, its a basic alarm with door lock control. Let me know if you have any other questions. I did stereos/alarms/tv etc... for the last 7 years.

12Volt, can you elaborate more.
I have a very hard time trusting the quality of electronics sold primarily at Pepboys and Checker/Schucks/Kragen autopart stores.

i have an alarm on my yota. i think its called prestige or something like that im not sure. is prestige a alarm comany?? well if i am right i hate my alarm. i keep it off all the time because it has on of those sensors on it if you touch it it goes off. i know i can change the sensitivty of it which i did but also sometimes ill push the button to disable the alarm and it will go off. this alarm has caused me more harm than good.
i try to keep it off but sometimes for some reason it will just come on automatically

i put a python system on my truck and has worked well. i know for a fact that it has at least stopped one attempted break-in. some fawker tried to punch my drivers side lock and was scared off by the alarm. Who knows, it may have saved me a few times. the nice thing about this system is that you can upgrade it as you go. so if you want to get fancier features you can add them down the road. by the way i have model 660XP.

Prestige is an alarm put out buy Audiovox. I have one on my '84 Toyota (model #APS-590), and if I get another car, I will put one in it also. Very good alarm. Comes with all the bells and whistles. Keyless entry, lights flash, panic, two way paging, starter disrupt, remote starting.... and more. Got mine through Summit Racing. $159.95 There another for $199.99 and it comes with some deal that works with sattelite. Has an LCD pager.
I live 5 mile from Mexico. I use an alarm + Club + Big Ass Dog named Chili. 1/2 Rotti + 1/2 Grayhound. (He's "Fast & Furious") :Rockonman

Most alarm systems work only as well as they are installed.

wow mine doesnt have all that. all it has is one button for turning the alarm on and off. then it actually has another button that does nothing. the guy i got the truck from just didnt set the button to do anything. but i do not like mine. the button already broke on it and i havent dropped it or banged it around. the little tiny spring broke and the button was constantly on and made the alarm go off whenever i got near the truck. it was a simple fix though i just took the spring out of the button that doesnt do anything and put it in the broken button. lucky for me the second button didnt do anything.
and like i said before i just keep it off all the time.

12Volt,
I agree with your thoughts on installation. One reason it won't be going to a stereo/alarm shop for installation.
Can you elaborate on your earlier thoughts on crimestopper being junk and loving prestige?

Mine came with two remotes. One is carbon fiber with four buttons and the other one looks like a miniature cell phone. It has five buttons and five little images that lights up indicating the current command or if someone is messing with the vehicle. I installed it myself. It took me about 3 hours. I tend to be a perfectionist. I want my stuff to have the factory install look. I completely disassembled my dash. I didn't hook up the remote start because my truck is carburated. I have to pump the peddle once in the morning to start the truck. It's a nice feature for a fuel injected truck or one with A/C so you can start it from inside the house, let it cool off inside before you get in. I don't have A/C either. But don't let an alarm fool you into thinking your truck is not Thief Proof. Those S.O.B.'s will steal your vehicle anyways. That's why I add the Club. The Club is not theif proof either. But it makes it more of a hastle for the would be theif. I googled "auto security" and found a sight that tells how to defeat a Club.

Crimestoppers have a tendancy to false ... alot! Many times I would get a crimestopper alarm that would not even power up. Not to mention crappy range that only gets worse over time. If you are concerned about price, since crimstopper is so much cheaper. I would be happy to send you the alarm of your choice at an unbeatable rate. I agree with AZ, I like my stuff to look factory also.

My Prestige is very good. It has only falsed once (at the courthouse parking lot). I don't know if it was an actual false alarm or not. My pager went off and by the time I got out there nobody was in site. I've had it for 2 or 3 months now. I can be inside a building and still keep tabs on my Yoat. And about that "Factory Install" look, I can't stand to see wires and stuff hanging down from under the dash. I see guys with thier radios "sliding" around the transmission hump and speekers laying on the floor. Those guys don't deserve to get thier "Rides Pimped" they need to be "Pimp Slapped". :kidding:
