i have a 1987 4 runner that i eventually want to convert to the solid front.. i was wondering if there was a spring/shackle combo or one that worked well to provide 4-5" lift over stock.. also i was wanting some feedback for the aussie lockers versus a lok rite or any other lockers. any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

i think aussie and locrites are about the same.

i would get a locrite because my friend has one and it works well.

allpro offroad also provides a solid axel swap kit:

i know a lot of people like the marlin crawler but a few people i know have done buisness with allpro and they have been very sastified. thats where im gonna get my solid axel swap. i believe its the same price or close to the same price as the marlincrawler.
(ive got an 86 4runner im gonna do the same thing with.)

There are subtle differences in the design of the Aussie locker that (supposedly) make dramatic improvements in the on road manners. I, too, have a Lockrite in my daily driven short bed and can only say it's horrible at best, it snaps and pops if your sloppy with the gas pedal (especially in tight parking lots  ) but I love it offroad. I also have an early Bronco with a Detroit (I used to have an L.A. Locker (now called Lockrite) and it actually broke the carrier in two and man was it also harsh) and it's almost transparent. The Aussie is supposed to be every bit as smooth as the Detroit. If I build this V6 third I have laying around I'll probably put an Aussie Locker in it......I can't afford another Detroit :( ........Hans

Another thing you might want to read if you're thinking of going with the A/P kit w/ Hysteer (you'll notice nowhere in their description does it say "billet" it used to say: " one piece investment cast chrome moly") http://www.marlincrawler.com/castarms.html just something to consider........Hans

friend has the allpro kit, the same friend with the locrite and its in his front diff not his rear. his rear is welded up. i would weld the rear of a DD or wheeler.

as for kits.

his allpoop kit we had to modify to get it to flex as well as the marlinkit. the marlin kit off the get go flexes a lot better and didnt need as much break in time.

just my thought.

i thought you might reply that ttr. you told me about the flex problem in an earlier thread. i saw a video on their site of their extreme lift kit and the flex seemed to be pretty good.
http://dirtvideos.com/All-Pro.wmv
that may have taken a while though to break in like that.

and as far as the billet goes im not gonna be doin that extreme of wheelin that i need to be worried about the difference in strength between he marlin and allpro.

and as far as the billet goes im not gonna be doin that extreme of wheelin that i need to be worried about the difference in strength between he marlin and allpro. I don't see the logic in that  Marlin's kit is the superior (and cheaper) of the two so, why would you go cast? Think about what would happen if it were to break at freeway speeds .........Hans

well i was goin to go with allpro because:

1. they are located like 1 hour away from where i live and

2. my dad bought the hysteer from allpro and hasnt had any problems and said it is the best mod he has done. (now im sure its the best mod just because it is high steer not because it is allpro)

but i dont know a lot of people like marlin crawler so people might have swayed me towards them. the big issue with that is i would probably ship the parts if i got it from marlin crawler. therefore shipping fees.

but my question is why allpro doesnt use billet parts?? i mean is there any down side at all?

p.s. i didnt realize that marlin crawler was less expensive.

marlin crawler was advertising free shipping for 30 days or something.

you should at least call marlin and find out how much compared to driving with the gas priced to allpro.

but both kits are great.

they are not competition kits by any means but they both flex well and both get you down and back on any trail you would desire in moab.

IMHO. they are all great kits. even aor4x4 kits is really nice. with the orbit eyes and alcan springs its almos the nicest kit out there. but its a lot more $$$$$ and shipping is forever.

thanks for the feedback peeps.. i had read up on the aussies and they claimed to be much smoother on road than other locklers so i was interested in off road feedback. i have a buddy with a mazda lok rite in the back and its pretty harsh on road unless u are real easy on the gas and clutch. guess ill just have to get one and find out how good they are! i already have a solid front waitin for me i just need springs/shackles to get the lift.. maybe the companies suggested earlier have some set ups.. thanks again
