this my first post. I was wondering if an auto out of an 86 efi runner would work in an 86 carb p/u? are the t-cases the same ratio and is it dual case compatable? Or is it even worth thinking about(the tranny is only 50.00 from a buddy i work with).the type of auto is a340h. any help would be great.thanks

I believe that the trans and t-case used in that year 4runner is of unit construction and will not seperate. It is chain driven and I think it has a pretty decent low range, also, they only came behind EFI motors so, there's the computer issue to deal with...I'm not sure if it has a stand alone system or if it's tied into the EFI computer. You might want to ask Marlin (559) 252-7295 , he would be able to provide you with all the info you're looking for......Hans

thanks i will do that.
you cannot run dual tcases with automatic that i know of.
but that would be sorta sweet to have a 4cyl auto with dual tcases and 4.7's

i was thinking that a auto with duals would be kindda sweet  . I found out that the auto will rob to much power and with the 4cylnder i need all the power i can get.

I have a buddy that has a turbo 4runner with an auto (that's the only way you could a turbo 4runner) he's running 5.29s w/35s (and a sas of course) and it works out pretty good for him (he wheels pretty hard) before that he owned an 85' Xtra cab with 33's, an auto and stock 4.30 gears and it's been on the Hammers and the Con. So, offroad they work ok, it's getting there on the highway that might be a little frustrating (slower than my '85 with 35s and 5.29s? :Freak: )........Hans

i bet it would pull ok offroad with 4.3s how about the stock 5spd and 4.30s, will that pull 33s ok on and off the road?
