I would check the fuel filter first. It sounds to me like you are not getting enough fuel.

I just had a similar problem on my wife's 87 4Runner. I finally traced the problem to the spark plug wires, or so I thought. I had replaced the fuel filter, checked the timing, replaced the cap and rotor with OEM parts etc. After talking to one of the dealer mechanics, he suggested the wires. When I went to replace them, I found the little screw on caps on the end of the spark plugs themselves were loose. Tightened them up, and no more problems. Next time I replace the plugs, those caps are being locktighted.

Mines doing the same thing, but only after I have been on the trail all day. I turn it off and let it cool down for an hour or so and it runs just fine. Still think wires or what else could it be?

Your problem doesn't sound like it could be the wires. Not sure what could cause that. Sorry.

We did mine by going through the top. It seemed to be easier than going through the wheelwell access panel.
dang tranny or spark problems. maybe a fuel pump or something.
thats a wierd problem i have no clue but let us all know when u figure it out.

had a buddy that had the same problem, his air gap in the distrubuter was set to wide. I would change the fuel filter first, I had a nissan do the same thing and it had a plugged filter. I had another buddy that had a spark plug wire melt to the manifold that also load and jerk real bad. On the air gap make sure it is set with in specs. chilton's manual has the adjustment and the ohm limits for the coil. also it could be a bad connection to the igniter or the coil.

sounds too simple but try replacing the plugs themselves. Same thing happened to me and got new wires and it still happened, got new plugs and BINGO that was it, no more broblems.

I found my problem it looks like. The plug going into the computer by the air filter was comeing out. When it comes all the way out the truck dies. I havent had any problems since. :boing Thanks all
