hey all..
Kinda new to the toyota scene. I do have a couple of questions.
I recently picked up a 91 4wd truck that needs a motor. This is where the fun part comes.

I have a 91 2wd with a newer motor that i put in. In the future i would like to swap the motor and do a sas and all that on the 4wd version. Are the rear springs ont the 2wd the same as the rear on the 4wd? I have read that in doing a sas it is wise to use the rear springs and this would make a great donor set.

Another question. Is the body work all the same between the two models? I have not really looked close but would like to keep the hood and doors and front body panels. other than that the rest of the body and frameis up for grabs.

Another question. tranny. Generally they are a w56 of some sort. Should I keep this 2wd version for future potential needs or is it too much work to convert to 4wd?

rear axle.
Is this the same as the 4wd version?

now the biggest question. If all the parts are the same tranny, axle, would it be simpler to do a sas on the 2wd and yank the xfer case out and go that route and do the sas at the same time?

Thanks in advance and of course

Not exactly the same, but close. 4WD trucks are spring over axle while 2WDs are spring under, so the 2WDs have a little more arch. They would be good to use up front, but you will have to add more leaves (as with any rears up front set-up).

Another question. Is the body work all the same between the two models? I have not really looked close but would like to keep the hood and doors and front body panels. other than that the rest of the body and frameis up for grabs.

For any generation/body style, sheetmetal, glass, etc are interchangeable.
There are slight differences, such as a 4WD fender will have a flair molded in for wider tires, but otherwise they're the same.

Another question. tranny. Generally they are a w56 of some sort. Should I keep this 2wd version for future potential needs or is it too much work to convert to 4wd?

You can't bolt a t-case to it.

rear axle.
Is this the same as the 4wd version?

No, smaller R&P, different spline count, different lug pattern.

now the biggest question. If all the parts are the same tranny, axle, would it be simpler to do a sas on the 2wd and yank the xfer case out and go that route and do the sas at the same time?

No, cause they're not the same.

Fantastic.
Thanks for the answers. I did notice the springs were spring under this morning.

Now time to start collecting parts.
