Ok all-

at the point where I am figuring the best wheelbase to run. '82 which was 102", has been stretched to about 106" at this point, I have the option to take it out another inch with my spring mounting point. What is the sweet spot to run? I know that when I had gone out with the heeps, I had a much easier time with the majority of the trails with my wheelbase then they did. Years ago I seem to remember that the "rockcrawlers" were being put around 110", can't seem to find too much info now. Seems they are going back down again.
I am not planning on competing in anything, this will be a driver that is set up for most if not all trails. Looking to see what wheelbase you are all shooting for or have found has worked best for you. I love rockcrawling and am not afraid or damage, toy axles planning on 38's with my 4.3.
thanks in advance,

106 is fine.

i run 123 and i like it.

i like the 85 xtra cab wheel base at 115. if u move ur axle forward to 117 if u get the kit lifts.

but 115 is what i am shooting for.

I've got my Runner stretched to 106" and it seems to work fine.

Alright I have a question, what is the proper way to measure wheelbase. i always thought It would be the distance from the center of your front wheel to the the center of your back wheel. When i measured mine, i measured from the front of the rear axle tube to the front of the front axle tube. know that this may not be a perfect measurement, but shouldn't in be real close to wheelbase. useing this method I measured my 85 xtra cab with sort of stock rear springs, and rears in the front at 110 inches. Now when i redo my rear suspension I am also thinking of changing my wheelbase. Now i have almost no weight on the rear end of my truck. and probably won't ever have much weight back there. With no weight on the rear am i better off with a little shorter wheelbase to get a little more of the cab weight back there, or should I lengthen it so i get a little better stability? Or am I better off leaving it the same, and maybe puting a little heavier flat bed on it for more traction. What do ya think. Thanks

Jon

i am at 126 inches on my truck and i havent had any problems. i will be shortening it tho to about 117 to make it less of a limo.

Yeah you limo truck drivers need to come down some. :fart:

Your target wheelbase would vary depending on what your looking to do with your truck...And what components you have (ie, tire size and width, and track width ) Ive had 106 for quite some time now with a total track width of 80". Now im about 109ish and total track width is 86" my tire size went from a 35 (actually measured out to a 33) to about a 39.5 inch.. With plans to go bigger later in life.

The 106 was a very good option, sometimes i felt like i would of felt better with about a 110. So thats where i went to.

YES (center to center )or Tire contact point... in other words center to center.

my 85 xtra cab is about 117" if i remember right. i wish it was a bit shorter or my axle turned sharper! i'd like to be 112".

I would say about 108-115 is prime.
