I've got the pacesetter header on my 22re and it's pretty good, i think if i had it to do over again i would get teh doug thorly tri-y it's the best bang for the buck.

I've had NWOR tri-y's on both my 22RE and 3.0 V6, and swear by them. For small, high RPM engines, that design seems to be the best at mid to high range, while still giving you low end torque (as much as you can expect from a small engine). Remember to keep your exhaust size 2¼" or less to retain some of the back pressure needed.

just purchased some thorley tri-y's yesteday along with all the parts needed for a complete 2.25" exhaust. i'll let you know what i think. best part about it is that i got eveything shipped for $300, same amount i would've spent on an LCE header w/out shipping :Rockonman

Hey, THANKS ALOT, hopefully doug thorley makes them for an 86 w/auto trans.... will a 5-speed header fit an auto trans. or does it matter? From what I have looked at , there is should be no differance, but what do I know ?

I have the LC header. I guess it is good. hard to tell because I did so much work to my truck all at the same time.
rebuilt engine, engnbldr head, LCE performance kit: injectors, headers, increase bore throttle body, FIPK, High flow cat, 2 1/4" exhaust...
all together it is pretty impressive, can cruise highway at 90 no problem with 4.56 gears and 33's
but I am about to sell the whole lot and drop in a 5.3 liter from a 2001 tahoe with 2500 miles i picked up!
now THAT is going to be sweet!

summit has two kinds of pacesetter headers, one looks like it is longer. which one is better?

i've heard bad things about the pacesetters. go with the tri-y, it frees up the most torque. i have heard great things about the lc header except it is better used on high rpm engines, which is where is produces most of its horsepower gains. originally i was going to go with them but the thorley header was just too good of a price and plus it works better in the rpm range that i use.

The LC header interfered with the frame on the 85 I put it on, which created an annoying rattle under load. It was also a major PITA to get the right connector pipe from LC to make it work. I was not impressed with the customer service either. I put that POS on a truck I sold and wouldn't get another one...

Thanks alot for the feedback, I called summit and ordered thorley's and got them in two days. The header is on but a little SNUG around my auto trans. it wants to rub my fiiler tube a little but the header is not made for an auto. ALL the right pieces and parts came with it and I combined the header w/dyno max muffler and it sounds pretty good and not real loud.THANKS for the help
