But to be a little more difinitive.. i would say soft and narrow on top with big and wide on bottom.
( This is not what a good articulating female would be )

articulation without weight on the tires is usless

Just get up on the biggest stump you can and measure the stump from the ground and up to the bottom of the tire...i guess thats what you may be asking...theres not a real science to this stuff, you just slap some stuff on and if it works, it works, if not, it doesnt...
ramtoy was talking about unsprung weight.
u want lots of weight under ur axle compared to above ur axle so that u get lots of droop and stability. wide always helps.
thats y heavy axle and a light spring makes it nice with a light truck and a 4cyl.
but with light springs and heavy axles come spring breakage. but im sure ur on the right ticket muddy i have faith in you.
