Alright, im getting an 85 runner. rust is EVERYWHERE the whole front where the headlights mount is all rusted out, the fenders have rust, theres just more rust than 1 truck could take(as far as the body is concerned).

Now, heres my proposal; I love the 1 gen runners, but not the old look. Im pretty determined this make it work somehow, but How possible is it to convert a 1st gen runner body to a 2nd gen runner body? 2nd gen front end looks a lot cleaner! How much modification is there to do? Im imagining the hardest part will be swaping out the body from behind the cab. im guessing im going to be doing a lot of cutting of a 2nd gen, and welding onto a 1st gen.

Does anybody have any ballpark figures on what the dimensions are?

Ive seen the other thread involving grill transfers, and how the mavricktoy did the swap from a 3rd gen (i dont want the 'T' i want the "Toyota" ) and switched back cause he didnt like it, but i think this is prolly cause the grill is the only thing that changed. Side markers were prolly stock. i want a full conversion. Headlights, side markers, front bumper and vailence.

This is gunna be my FULL project rig. im redoing everything, including a custom interior/dash and possible custom removeable hard top. (rebuilding it out of fiberglass maybe? or carbon fiber if im rich enough  )

Anybody have any info on this stuff. Ball park figures, wierd custom ideas? i wanna make it a built off-road vehicle, but a show truck. So it wont be seeing any dirt as long as I own it.

Any ideas?

Built off road/show truck :No pity:

I'm sure you could get it to work. Get yourself a 2nd gen and start comparing the sizes of the parts, cut to fit.

BTW the 85 runner is a removable hard top. its got bolts that run along the bed rails, then more over the cab. Then wala it pops off!

Try searching over on www.pirate4x4.com, they do all sorts of crazy combo's

I know the top is removeable, and that its made out of fiberglass, but its damn heavy! and could use a makeover..something that looks more like a body part, and not a camper shell.

Yeah bondo is gunna be all over the place...

Anybody seen any dash's replaced with new dash's? Thats prolly gunna be the hardest part im imagining.

man if you are building a show truck you are going to blow way too much money doing all that to a rusted old runner.... dont get me wrong, I love old trucks, I wouldent trade my 85 for 2 tacomas. You should get a 2nd gen and swap the axle in, then buy a top kit, Im sure somebody makes em' and it would be cheaper.
