I am also looking at doing the same swap -- a non-running 1990 3VZ 3.0L with over 200,000 miles, to a 1987 22RE with about 80,000 miles in my 1990 4x4. My thoughts were to use the 22RE motor, accessories, all brackets, wiring and computer from 22RE, then go from there. I was wondering if you solved the bell housing problem and how (use original 3VZ 4x4 bellhousing or use 22RE 4x4 bellhousing or maybe a 22RET bellhousing?). Dude.

Just a heads up. In most states it is extremely hard to smog a vehicle if an older engine is swapped in. I'd at least do some homework to see if it'll pass any emissions tests required before putting all that time and money in the swap.

is it the 3vs you are replacing?

if it is the engine mounts are not in the same position as the 22re. the 22re's mounts are further forward then the 3vz

so you'll have to cut them out and weld in some new ones further forward.

no i got the 22r and trans but the motor is to narrower and longer so what i found out is that there is holes farther back on the block to put the mounts but they are about 1/2 inch to far back but that is better than about 2 or 3 inches to far forward
