Picked up an 87 xtracab to use for a semi daily driver/farm truck. I want a mud tire with good road manners and good tread life. I was leaning toward the BFG Mud terrain KM, but I got a good price on some Radial Baja Claws. Which tire should I go with? Thanks.

I would get the BFG mud terrains or look at the Goodyear Wrangler Mt/R's.
bfg all terrains or mtrs. or mud terrains.

I've had BFG all terrains before and for the mud I've encountered I didn't think they performed well. I definetly want a mud tire. I'm not sure the price difference in the BFG M/T and the MTR but I can get the Radial Claws for about $480 tax included. By the way I'm gonna go with a 31x10.50x15. I've also considered a Radial TSL or SSR.

i agree just go cheap and get some interco tires, don't last as long but you can get them alot cheaper then BFG's. good luck and have fun

How many miles should I get out of a radial claw or a radial swamper? Has anyone had any experience with the radial claw? I just checked the prices and between the BFG and MTR for the money I'd rather have the BFG. I think it's between spending more money and getting the BFG muds or gettin out cheaper and going with the radial claws. Any advice?

I have seen claws in action on the trail and I was personally not impressed.

GROUND HAWG radials.....nearly as good as BOGGERS in the mud and provide a good highway ride to boot.

Yeah, Hawgs are also expensive as hell. At $210 a tire, I think I could find something a good bit cheaper to do what I need. Got a set of 38" Hawgs on another truck though. Good tire but I'm not looking to make a mud bogger daily driver. I just want a tire that will not get me buried in the field after a rain and not beat me to death or roar to bad on the road.

I've had great luck with BFG muds on the 4runner (daily driver), I am on my second set, 32x11.5. I had BFG ATs before and they just dont compare off road and if you take good care of the MUDS they WILL last and wear good. As a sidenote, I have 35" X-Terrains on my pickup and in my opinion the BFGs are better in mud and wet conditions off road, they clean much better. I've also heard negative feedback on MT Claws also, mainly in regard to off road performance. If you want a directional tire like a Claw, maybe look into Yokohama MT+

i ran bfg muds for 4 years. they were pretty good.
i just put some interco trxus muds on my truck and i like them much better then the bfgs. the side walls are better, they are quiet on the highway, and they are much better in the mud and stick to rocks like glue. they are wearing really well considering i have a lincoln locked rear axle!
i got mine 33x12.5x15 for $475 shipped to my door in two days.

I just went from 31 street tires to 33 12.5 MTR's. Im lovin them. They are quiet on the road compared to your typical knoby off road tire. The price difference between the Mud Terrian and the MTR is pretty close, but i was able to find the MTR's for cheaper ( $155 a piece at Big O Tires). I would go for MTR's, they also do very well on rocks, not to mention the bad ass side wall they have.

ive had great luck with the 37'' goodyear mtr and the 37'' Xterrain. i would never run bfg mud terrains on a vehicle that does even moderate/medium trail duty. the side walls are junk and will leave you stranded with a destroyed tire.

ive got 31" BFGs on my 4runner right now, they are my second set and im pretty happy with them. good tread wear (i think i got 40-50K on the first set). the only thing you might be concerned with is the sidewalls, i had one that got tore up pretty bad on nothing but a tree root that was sticking out of the side of the trail. i had roadhazard on them so i got a new one for free though. :Rockonman

I've run BFG Muds for years on several different vehicles. I was on one trip where a guy ripped the sidewall out of 3 different Swampers. I had a spotter one time yelling at me that I was going to rip a sidewall. It broke the branch instead. I will run the BFGs on my 4Runner over any other tire that I've seen. I run the BFG KOs on my Jeep right now as it's my DD/hunting rig. I "might" go to the MTRs on that one just for a slightly more aggressive tread, but I am very happy with the KOs. Monday night we had a pretty good snow storm over ice. I was driving my Cherokee around pulling out other cars. I had a guy driving a Jeep Wrangler ask me if I was chained up because I wasn't having any problems. He was obviously not a wheeler (he asked the question, didn't he??), but he still couldn't believe how much better my vehicle was getting around as opposed to his. I think it's just personal opinion, and what you're happy with.
