Hello all, my 86 pickup is experiencing some probs. While out of town the truck sat for a week without being run. When I start it now it will idle great and run fine, but as soon as I put it in gear and let off the gas it dies. Any suggestions? The truck has a carb, new exhaust (installed just before sitting), and I put a bottle of heet into it when I first discovered the problem thinking there may have been water in the gas. I will play 'three pedals two feet' to keep it going when driving it and as long as is revved the truck runs great. I have put maybe thirty miles on it since discovering the problem and there has been no change.

Also, my heater blower goes on & off periodically now (mostly off), this also started after the truck sat for a week, at the exact same time.

I am wanting to learn to be my own mechanic with this truck, with this thing I'm sure to have many projects. I was very happy to find this website and enjoyed watching as problems are worked through. Thanks in advance for any help! -Tim Ragsdale

Just a wild guess here, but the fact that it sat for a week and the blower is now acting up, I'd guess you might have some uninvited guests. I'd look around very carefully to see if you've had mice. If so, you may have some bad wires under the dash. That's about the only thing I can think of that would connect the 2 problems.

Thanks for the quick response! You may have something, only the problem may have been my own doing. There are some wires under the dash I have had to tuck back into place. I may have done this immediately prior to parking it and being gone a few days, I'm not sure. It is definately something I check into.

So I know what I'm looking for, is there a particular connection that being loose or not connected at all would cause the stalling? The wires that have a tendency to hang are routed directly under the steering column and go to or around the fusebox. Thank you again for the suggestions!
