I have bought all that stuff to do the front axle. super 27sp. longfields & axle shafts, marlin hi-steer, knuckle rebuild kit new studs bearings and seals, & c-clips.
The problem is... I bought the axle to do all this stuff too, and it was totally disassembled. The left and right side are in labeled buckets.

I need to know which side the shims go on(top or botom), and does anyone have a schematic of the parts, and the torque specs. and any tricks or need to know things, to put this axle together.

Ive got (2) 3rd members ready to go in with aussie lockers and yukon 5:29's

thanks Joe

u need a factory service manual.

u might find one at the library and can copy the pages u need.

could find .pdf of it perhaps on the net.

or buy one on ebay.

This might help.

To know where the shims go, you have to measure the preload. Your looking for about 12-15bls of pull load on the knuckle.

Here is a picture of someone checking thier preload.

Shims go between the bottom cap and the knuckle to center the birfield in the knuckle housing and between the top cap and knuckle to set preload. You need to look at the procedure outlined in the FSM, it requires a special sevice tool (you might be able to rig something up) to do it right. Centering the birfield is critical to inner seal longevity..........Hans

well ok
what kind and how much grease/oil goes in the longfield and the inner knuckle?

should I try to put the same amount of shim on the top and the bottom?
