Shackles reversal

Alright, What is the proper way to do the shackles reversal on my 76 FJ-40? I'm in the middle of doing the SOA and want to do the reversal also. Can I cut off both front and rear mounts for the springs and just swap them? I am planning on flipping the springs to gain some wheelbase. If I do the shackles reversal this way as well as flipping the springs...will I gain any wheelbase?
