Ive herd of a lot of people running cat only, no muff...after doing some reading, a lot of articles say that its best not to run anything after the cat, since the main function of a muffler, is to muffle the sound.

So, i ask this; why not just run cat only? aside from maybe the loud sound produced by the cat. Or does a muffler give you any HP gain?

all you need is headers, and cat? less wieght, less things to catch rocks on...more clearence when working under your truck? What do you guys think?

its loud without a muffler and what not. ppl do run a cat and a cherry bomb. its basicaly a straight exhaust.

i cut mine after the cat and i dont mind it.

Just make sure your exhaust doesn't dump under the truck. :Freak:

I don't see how that wouldn't drive you nuts...I'd rather lose 10 horses than listen to that kinda racket...

Tell you what, that can do some damage to your hearing. Once you have tinitus, it doesn't go away.

To each his own...

I dumped everything and piped the exhaust into my cab. :Freak:

ok, maybe I didnt. But trust me, if you get a good high-flow muffler, you wont comprimise the HP. Not to mention, you actually need some back pressure. Too open of an exhaust will actually cause a loss in HP.

Without the muffler it will rev higher but you won't have torque down low.

I dont run a muffler. Exhaust is cut off right after the cat. My truck doesnt get driven on the street. Here in utah a muffler is required to be street legal.

I dont mind the noise, i think it sounds tuff. Its not that loud.

Yes, less weight and more clearance. Ive had a rock stuck on my muffler once.

All and All for me cutting the muffler off was a good option. I dont have any regrets.

All I have is a piece of pipe with a turbo muffler on the end. It is pretty loud, but a lot quieter than the cherry bomb I had on there. I started it up with just a pipe off the manifold and it was extremely loud.

I had a problem with it on my 94, I ran straight exhaust out the back after the cat, and actually damaged 2 brand new cats (to the point where they were rattling apart) in about 8 months (then I sold it) The muffler also gets rid of many vibrations in the exhaust. According to the muffler shop I talked to that is!

ive always thought the louder the better. im not expecting it to sound like a 350, but the only sound i can think of right now is a civic with hole in the exhaust. Does the 22re sound like its got a couple muscles with a straight pipe? im a little far away from having a running engine otherwise I would try it out.

Here's a sound clip of what it should sound like:

JOHNNYS BMW EXHAUST (http://www.wildyoats.com/images/Johnnys%20exhaust%20sound.wav)

Ok, maybe not. Save that for the BMW's! :D

it sounds too beafy with nothen but headers....

I had to pick my friend up from frisco today, (i live in sacramento) so, driven there..about 45 minuts into my trip, my exauhst gets a hell of a lot louder than it was (i had a cracked header pipe) my header pipe broke all the way through, and the clamp to the tranny broke as well...so i pulled over, got undernieth, puled it off, and continued to frisco...raced a camaro through traffic...and once traffic came to a stop (and my exauhst is WAY too loud...you have no idea!) the camaro asked me "what are you runnen?" i was like "4 cylnder dude!"
and he replys "yeah..sure...times 2!" drove back to sac...better high end tourqe...worse gas milage..and NO low end tourqe... Getten exahst fixed today....
