Okay guys mabye a stupid question but how do ya build a good hybrid leaf pack ? I'm thinking rears up front and cheveys in the rear ! I would guess you would want to use the longer leafs and do not use the over loads ? I know you guys can build some good ones so come on and let me in on the secrets !

Wagoneer, YJ, Bronco II, Toyota, etc. are all good springs to use to build a killer pack. Try to use leaves that are close to the same thickness. More than likely, you'll have to cut down some leaves to get them to be right. I built a pretty good setup out of ( I think) 86 Jeep Wagoneer leaves and 83 Toyota rears. I just had to cut (there again I think) 3.5 inches off the front edge of the Wagoneer leaves to get them to fit and be even. But they worked pretty well. I could flex on a 42 inch tire without lifting any tires. Really, just play around. And if you don't like it, start mixing in/out leaves till you get what you want.
As for the Chevies, I hope that you have some weight in the back. Or you are putting them under a Runner. They don't flex like everyone says. Plus they're just too darn long. But, if you're dead set on using those, Find the older ones (88-90). They REALLY need to be broke in to flex. You can also inboard the Chevies to get a bit more flex. And stay away from the dual shackle set up. You might want to try some Mazda rears. They flex awsome. But axlewrap is horrible. Juts build a antiwrap bar and call it good.....

how much lift do u want. i have 5 inches lift or so on my pack. that includes a 2.5 inch drop hanger 6 inch eye to eye shackles. for the springs i used an 83 toy rear main and military wrap, for the 3rd one i used a rancho 3 inch lift military wrap with the wrap end cut off the 4th is a 3rd leaf from an f150 pack and the last ia a random jeep leaf. they flex well i can get on a 44 in TSL no problem.

alrighty the wonderful spring question. i remember a year ago i was in his shoes.

now i have my pack setup and rearing to go.

for front i have a 2.5 drop hanger the 3 main leafs out of a 91 toy extra cab. 3 main leafs with the eyes cut off of a 85 rear pack. then the 2nd leaf out of a 97 tacoma rear leaf pack. and a 4 inch shackle mounted below the frame. have about 9 inches of lift total.

can get my tire on a 5 foot rock without getting another tire off the ground.

for rear i got 63 inch chevies with a 8 inch shackle and a 2.5 drop hanger for the rear of the frame.

i like the chevies. they look ugly but are durable and i took the overload out. came out of a 92 1/2 ton 2wd chevy from a junkyard. think they were 100 bux for the set.

i have more of a write up on a diffrent forumn if u want me to link u to it. talks about shocks and what not.

The military wrap is when the second leaf wraps around the front spring eye. Just crawl under your truck/runner and look at the front of the rear leaves (assuming they're stock). This setup is a lot stronger.

I wouldn't use a plasma cutter/torch to cut down the leaves. An angle grinder or chop saw works good. They also make a lot cleaner cut.

Okay ,what about the over loads I've heard talk about cuting them down and using them as lift blocks ? will they hurt your flex if you don't cut them down ?should I use them on the front, back or either ? Thanks again for the help !

cut them down to about 4 inches lock or remove them. i hate those things i prefer to remove them but its up to.

and i used a torch and cut my leafs. but i took the leafs apart and cut one at a time.

and yes some leafs have spring eyes on them and u have to cut them off. also to make them staggard or shorter to fit in the spring pack ur making.

i have some pics on a thread somewhere on here ill try to find the post or search for it. or ill reupload them or i could email u with them if u want.
