well at least not for me!

ok in an effort to add tach and other cool features, I swapped in a sr5 cluster (with tach) into my 89 runner (sans tach)

speedo works, but fuel, and tach does not. and temp seemed a bit high from the start, my truck had been sitting for a few hours so it should have been cool, but maybe not, will check on that in the morning.

but tach doesn't work!!

I checked that I have a connector going to the right place according to this article: :read:
http://www.siestaoff-road.web1000.com/clustertech.html

which I am thankful was posted don't get me wrong. Just didn't work for me!

I disconnected the oil sending unit until I get the correct one.

any suggestions on how to track the tach and fuel wiring? possible something as simple as fuses?

Thanks.

-Eric (I suck at electical stuff)

The Tach wire is yellow/black. Make sure that there is a ground from the plug/harness to the copper path way for the tach.

fuel sender is the yellow/red wire, same goes for the ground.

As for the temp, the needle may just be sticking. Mine does that but when the temp goes up the needle will too.

Great! Thanks!

I am gonna jerk it back out tonight and jack with it some more...

I'll keep you posted.

Obviously you need voltage on the colored wires! :D

ok, finally got a chance to get this thing apart again. I also installed the new oil pressure sending unit. and a new thermostat.

The only instruments working on this cluster are the speedo, and the charging (which registers about 16 volts) and the temp.

no oil pressure, no fuel level, and no tach. according to the picture in the link I posted earlier, where the tach connection should be, i have a purple wire in the harness there. if I remove that, where should it go?

Looks like I am going to have to wire all the way out to the coil, but when I get there which wire should I connect to?

also, rescue, I have a black with yellow stripe, and yellow with black stripe elswhere within the harness.

:Freak: dazed and confused...

anybody got a good wiring diagram they can send me?

On top of this my multi meter seems to be hosed, so I will have to get another tomorrow. If someone could let me know where to start doing continuity tests.

wish me luck as I drive to work tomorrow with no instrumentation! :Rockonman

getting closer!!!
Got the Tach working!!

and the oil pressure gauge.

Thanks to this thread:

http://www.barneymc.com/toy_root/techtalk/accessor/sr5_gage.htm

all info wasn't exactly, but got the ball rolling.

only things left:

1. there is an extra wire that I had to pull to hook up the tach correctly, it is on the blue (far left plug) and is green with red stripe...

2. the fuel gauge still doesn't work.

3. back door light doesn't come on when it is unlocked

4. turbo light stays on (woo hoo!!) but I don't have turbo :(

thanks for any input

Go buy a haynes manual at the very least for the wiring schematic or better yet a Toy manual.

Blue is fuel power
purple is the ground for check engine light from the ECU.
yellow/red fuel level sender
