I am putting in a TH350 and an NP205 into my FJ40 next week. I am worried about the rear diff not being centered, but I do not want to spend cash on a new axle yet. Have any of you ran a centered rear output on a transfer case with an offset diff, or vice versa. If you have, what was your experience? Am I opening a huge can of worms?

Oh yeah, I am brand new to this BB, so please be nice to me.

You can build a centered rear diff with toy-mini axles and Cruiser chunk...

That looks good, but I do not have those skills. After I pay someone to do a job like that, I could probably buy a Dynatrac.

You need to go to this site. http://proffittscruisers.com/centered_rear.html

Jerimiah does great work and is easy to deal with.

I have some Chevy 3/4 ton axles that I would let go for $200 obo if you want to consider that option. The rear is a 14 bolt with a 10 bolt front. Both are full width, open, with 3.42 gears. PM me if you have any interest, Scott.

I have seen quite a few mini axles under 40's as well, Bobby Long makes hardened gears and axles which would strengthen everything as well.

I think DJ was running a stock rear axle with a chevy t-case behind his NV4500. Back then he said it was working fine (this was probably 10 years ago- damn time flies!). I would think that as long as your u-joint angles arent too severe that you will be fine. You may use up joints a little faster though. I would through it in and give it a try. If it doesnt work out then go the new rear axle route.
Good luck!
