Ok i put a brand new motor in it New clutch also and new piolot bearing but they sold me the wrong throw out so we re used the old one. Now when i go to shift gears its tight goin into to 1st and 2nd and it will not go into reverse its grinds like crazy if u shut the motor off it will go into gear just fine and then u can start it and back up. We replaced the Slave cylender and the fork apears to be being pushed all the way out by the slave... Any ideas this is kind of a pisser since we just got the motor runnin.
its a 83 toy with a 5speed and 22r
Thanks :cuss:

...sorry to say, meaning no offense, but looks like re-using the old throw-out bearing has come to bite you in the :moon: . My advice is to drop the tranny and replace the old throw out with a new one. It is also possible that the clutch is out of alignment. I'm assuming you used an alignment tool when assembling, otherwise your tranny has just given you the shaft.
Best wishes!

it's not that the clutch is out of alignment because as soon as he pressed in the clutch pedal for the first time, any misalignment in the clutch disk would be gone. also, if the tranny input slides into the pilot bearing, the alignment is pretty damn close and like i said it will be perfect as soon as the pressure plate is disengaged.
oh.. and i agree, drop tranny and take a look for yourself. change throwout while you're at it. my opinion is that the clips that hole the throwout bearing hub to the clutch fork came loose and the throwout bearing assembly is spinning freely on the tranny input shaft. what i would do is go to a toy dealership and buy a new throwout bearing assembly and clips. it will come with the throwout bearing assembled on the hub. drop the tranny and put in the new throwout bearing with new clips. oviously drop tranny first to see if that is even what happened but i'm guessing it is. good luck

Every time I've replaced the clutch in the wife's 87 4Runners I've had to adjust the rod on the clutch pedal. Did you try that?

i got in it and fired it up today to pull it in the grage to swap 3rds and look into the clutch deal and it shifts fine, makes a little clunk when u shift into reverse, no more grinding... i dunno ?? it fixed it self ?

bad or old gear oil will make hard shifts.. maybe try putting in some good oil.

did you grease the pilot bushing when you put it in?
did you even replace the pilot bushing?
did you resurface the flywheel? this may be allowing the clutch master cylinder more travel than it was used to.
a few things I can think of are
pump it about 20 times between bleedings and bleed the system
(pressure bleed from the slave cylinder back into the master cylinder if you can access a pressure bleeder)
(if you can't then bleed the system several times to make extra sure all the air is out of the system.)
maybe the slave cylinder isn't pumping up like it should.
there is an adjustment under the dash on the master cylinders throw rod
ps don't grab the rod with vise grips you will damage it where it goes through the seal on the back of the master cylinder ask me how I know.
you can bleed it several more times and make sure you pump it several times in between bleeds. mine did the exact same thing you are talking about and it cleared up after several bleedings.
you said you replaced the slave cylinder even the slightest bit of air in the system will cause what you have described. hope this helps.
