want to buy a 80's fj60, what do I need to know?

Not alot of options that changed on the 60's... The later 62's will have EFI, auto, and 4.10's. All the 60's have 3.73's.

All will be 6 cylinder, similar axles, same springs. Interior on the newer ones got better.

Rust in the rear wheel wells, rear tailgat & liftgate. Rust on the doors... Try and find the least...

just wonderin', are the axles the same from later 60's (62's) to earlier 80's, taking into account the spring changes?

No, the 60 & 62 are pretty close, different ratios, housing is better on the 62. The 80 has a RC 8" in the front, bigger birfs, etc.
