I have an 86 4runner with about a 7 inch lift and i need new springs. I want the orbit eye or johnny joint. I also want longer springs. I heard that chevy springs work well but are 63 inches. the ones i have now are about 47" long. please give me some ideas on the rear suspesion. thanx

63" Chevy springs provide good flex for cheap, but require new hangers, moved fwd and aft of stock ones.

They only provide a few inches of lift over stock springs, but additional lift can be gained thru use of blocks/longer shackles/dropped hangers, etc.

that sounds dandy. take out the overload in the leafs int he rear and make sure u only use the 3 main leafs.

make ur shackles 8 inches eye hole to eye hole.

thats what mine are and u should sit pretty level.

good luck

Ummm. Sounds great, except i have about 5 inches of lift with that same setup and 11 inch shackles. If you want 7" of lift, you can drop your front hanger lower, you will mess up your pinion angle. You can add blocks, but then you will wrap like hell. So add a trac bar too. Don't want to? use adda leafs... But then your springs aren't soft.

One other idea..... Drop a johnny joint mount. Just weld some box tube to drop them 2", and drop your hanger in the front anbout 2 inches lower than normal, and you will be at about 7" of lift. And you wont need trac bars. Or, use longer shackles if you haven't ordered the 10 inchers yet. You will catch all kinds of **************** for having 13 or 14 inch shackles though. (poeple think they look funny!)

Here are two pics of my 63s with a custom trac bar (I dont want to wrap/kink) they are 3 leaf, no overload.
