So, It is finally cold enough that I want to put the top back on my 4 runner and I need to deal with the rear window that I ignored all summer, ( I just took it out for wheeling because it was so rotted)
I am trying to replace the track that pressure fits to the bottom of the glass as mine was rotted out. I can't seem to get the track to stay on across the glass. It rocks at the center and slips right off once I try to put the glass in the tailgate. Any one have ideas how the get it on so it will stay?

i hope this help, when i broke my driverside window [hah i have a hard head] there is a channel that i had to pry with a screwdriver to get the old glass out and then press the lip very carefully back onto the new glass the tools i used were a sock covered screwdriver and a rag covered pare of wide pliers

howdy!
unfortunatly if the rear rubber water seal is not replaced every so often water gets to the metal track at the bottom of the window and in time, it will rot away and need to be replaced. this track can be purchased through a toyota dealership for about $35.00.
the track is held onto the bottom of the window with an adhesive padding. gently tap the track onto the window working from side to side.. if you have any probs. refer to an owners manual. it takes you step by step through the procedure.. if you have any more questions please let me know.
now get to work!!:bye:

Is the adhesive between the rubber and the metal or between the rubber and the glass? Is it like 2 way tape? I am thinking a big gob of Silicone might give it the lube and adhesive strenght.
Thanks!

I just used the new piece of rubber in the metal track. I put a little dish soap on the glass and wiggled the track on. Then rinsed the soap away. It has worked very well, although it was a struggle to get it together. Took like 20 minutes. The silicone sounds like a good idea as long as you get it together before the stuff starts tacking up.
