im changing out some front wheel studs on my 85 4runner with the solid axle and disc brakes. I cant find a store that carries the studs i need. Is my axle different in some way or how come the studs that the stores carry are not even close to what i need.? the studs i need go through the rotor and the hub i think. the ones the stores carry are much too short. anyone have any ideas? dealer item maybe?

also i cant find leaf spring bushings i need from parts stores either. these are the ones for the rear lower mount of the rear leaf spring and the bushing is the one with a metal housing around it. anyone have any ideas for those?

I took my stud with me and matched it with the new ones. you may have non factory studs installed by someone else as a replacement. also check at the dealership to see if what you have is what they carry for it.

have you done a search for the bushings online you may have luck that way. or go to the dealership for them. and pay through the nose.

Try www.downeyoff-road.com 562-949-9494 if you don't mind using urethane bushings. These are the ones I used to mount my rears up front. When mounting your springs in the (front?) stock hangers (using the Downey urethane bushings), omit the metal sleeve in the front (large diameter) bushing and your stock front pivot bolts will fit perfectly...........Hans

thanks for the advice. im going to run to the dealer tomorrow and see what i can find and how far they are going to bend me over and ill report back. The studs just confuse because i dont see how they could be anything but stock.

I had the same problem with wheel studs. I took one in and looked through a book that had actual size pictures. I think I ended up with land cruiser studs. I'm not sure they were exactly right cause they were REALLY hard to press in. Good luck.

i had to replace my bushings with the ones from the dealer and had to cut out the metal sleeve and put in the new bushing and sleeve.

and yes i paid threw the nose.

those ones from downey sound cheaper and if its for offroad there fine.

but toyota builds those bushings for a reason and theya re super tuff.

the part number is 610-264 that is a dorman number that any napa or most autoparts stores will have.

these were correct for me.

i took one of my old studs that i pressed out into the parts store and had to go to a couple of different locations cuz everybody only had one, but they werent too hard to find! you probably want to take a lug nut as well.

I got the studs from NAPA

robrocketanski - is that a part number for wheel studs or for bushings.

I went to the dealer today and they had the ones i needed, for 5 bucks a pop, ouch. also stripped a caliper bolt and they didnt have that at any store, so once again the good guys at rocklogic bailed me out. And that is the end of the wheel stud saga.

next is getting the spring packs completed and getting crossover done.

Just looking through my Downey catalog for you. The bushings are sold per each (2 bushings per eye, total of 8 bushings to do two springs) The bushings for the front eye of of the rear springs are $2.41 ea. (comes with the steel sleeve if you buy 2 but, you won't need that if you're using it as a front spring in the stock hangers) The rear eye of the rear springs are $2.09 ea. ............;) Hans

im slightly confused about this matter of the bushings. The front part of the rear spring uses 2 part bushings with no metal sleeve. The rear lower bushing uses a metal sleeve, but when i drilled them out, it appeared to just be one piece rubber bushings in a metal housing and I was quoted 24 bucks per rear lower bushing if they were to be ordered at pep boys. Would you mind explaining exactly what I need just a little more? thanks.

edit: im going to be using them as front springs with a custom made 2 inch drop hanger.

edit: im going to be using them as front springs with a custom made 2 inch drop hanger. I think you got that backwards. My stock 85' rear springs had a one piece (factory), press in rubber bushing with a metal sleeve at the front eye (the bigger one). I replaced it with the Downey 2 piece urethane bushing and left out the supplied sleeve (the factory front spring hanger's pivot bolt is a perfect fit). The rear eye on the rear spring uses a 2 piece bushing and no sleeve (the factory shackle pin goes right into the bushing). You see, I tried using the stock spring bushing when I mounted my rears up front but, the stock pivot bolt (I used the stock hangers) was too large to fit through the metal sleeve so, I just drilled them out (what a chore  ) and installed the Downey bushings and all is well:D .........Hans

ok that makes sense, I had it backwards. So if im going with the rears up front with a dropped front spring hanger, will the two piece urethane bushings without the sleeve work for my purposes? or what should i go with? im kind of a newbie to leaf springs, so bear with me here.

Since you're making a custom hanger just use what ever size bolts fit the bushings. If you omit the sleeves they're 14mm (you could probably use 9/16" cause they're way cheaper than metric bolts that size:eek: ).........Hans

I just replaced the studs on mine as well. The front studs were from a newer landcruiser axle according to the tire stores book...and they were a bitch to get in. I ended up taking a solid trailor hitch with the flat part pushed on the back of the stud, and swinging full on for at least 10 minutes per stud. I can't believe it was that hard to get them in there!

i have been able to find them. in fact i have 6 spare ones i have never used. just sitting in my tool box. i think they cost me $2.50 each.

i got mine at champion auto parts, but they can be had at checker, and napa.

call around and see what you can get.

My studs were easy as pie to get in. I just hammered them halfway into their slot and used an open ended lug nut to suck them all the way through until they were seated properly. For all those of you banging and hammering, you may want to try this method in the future.

Oatmeal - Do you happen to have a part number for the front bushings I need and they are from Downey right?

I used a lug nut to draw the lugs through as well. I relly chewed up the rim that I was using though. I think thos cruiser lugs are just slightly larger than what the runner is supposed to take.

Downey's part numbers (from their catalog) : Front eye (larger one) # 92071 (you'll need 4 pieces to do both springs). Rear eye (shackle end) #92030 (4 of those too). Good luck :) ........Hans

Looks like Downey is out of Spring Bushing for two weeks. Does anyone know where to get some more front bushings for the rear of an 85 4runner from? My 4runenr is going into the shop next week and i would like to get them pretty soon.

Also I would like to get some 2 inch drop shackles for the front of my 4runner so that the rear springs will give some lift. Does anyone know where to get some cheap ones from, other places are like 60-80 for a pair. Could I make my own? I just know the stock ones have a kink in them.

Try 4crawler. He makes those shackles with the little spacers to meet the off set of the frame to spring width!

If I remember right they were pretty cheap.I plan on buying some of those soon to replace the stock shackles and level it with the rear chevys!
