I would take it back out and check the backlash. If it is too tight or too loose it will ruin the gears.

i haven't put it back together yet, i just need to know what the backlash should be when i put it together (4.56 R&P)

Between 8 and 12 thousandths. I would put them at about 9, and they will wear in a little and be perfect at 10.-

i set it at about 8 and and just finished it all. took it down the road and everything went smooth, (except the lockwrong around corners) including my new disc conversion.

So, you decided to run it in the back? Are you still buying that high pinion (mounting it up front?)............Hans

8 thousandths is good. Yeah the lock-wrong is a little strange at first when you drive it. I had one for a while in another vehicle and at first I was like "What the hell did I do to my truck!" Then after I drove it a while I almost didn't notice it.

i have had time too drive it around quite a bit and i am actually pleased with it both on and off road. i didn't realize what i was missing out on. i did however manage to completly screw my front diff. last night up in the mountains. i was going up a really torn up trail and my front end made all sorts of noises. i backed up and saw about 10 oz. of diff fluid on the dirt:puke:. it came from around the pinion but i drove it home and it was fine (not in 4x4).
so to answer your question yes, i did buy the hi pinion and i will probably be installing it a little sooner than i thought. however i will probably go with 4.88's since they are cheaper for some reason than 4.56's. thanks for your guys help
