My engine needs either a new carb, junkyard carb or an FI swap. What is entailed in doing an FI swap to a 1984 22r?

Used carb would be $75-100, a new one $250 and FI....?

if ya want my opinion just buy a new carb....unless you got a good source for parts you'll need to wire up all the electronics...buy the actuall efi intake...and an efi feul tank. my buddy just did this swap and for the past 3 weeks hes been fighting all the bugs. buying a junk yard carb ya really dont know what youre getting. i run a weber carb on my 84 runner and it works just fine...ive had my truck on its side and it still ran with no stalling or anything! save your cash for cool suspension upgrades...or stuff you can use for makin a bad ass trail rig.:bye:

Just for the record Jim, it was 2 weeks... u gotta send me the pics of my swap. As to weber carbs, god do they suck, i dislike them ever so much. I only went through 3. Hopefully I don't go through EFI's like I went through carbs. It runs good now though, lil more power 2.

I have a Weber on mine now, but I also have a factory carb that is probably going to go back on. I don't like the webers much. If I could go EFI I would though. IMO EFI is better than any carb any day.

hahaha...alex you went through 3 carbs because you bought the junk from a wrecking yard...you get what you pay for. and as far as all you guys dissin on webers....if ya take care of it, it will work just fine. i drive my toy all the time...im hard on it...and it hasnt f*ed up once. what can i say? besides that....too much electronics on an efi....dont get me wrong alex but you have kinda a rats nest under the hood....im guessing the next thing to go wrong with your truck....is a fire!! hahahahaha. i better start packin my fire extinguisers again..oh well boys...wheelin and building your rig isnt based on what other guys like or dislike...its all about what you want. so if you want efi...go for the gold! happy wheelin. and alex..i sent your pics to your hotmail address....get your drive line fixed so we can hit iron dick and 4hole. i think im ready for samuri or hells kitchen now....lol.

EFI swap reuires the entire EFI Intake, fuel tank from EFI truck, Computer, and EFI wiring harness.

My truck came with a weber on it when I bought it. We thought it was the base gaskets that went bad, so we replaced them but there was still something internally wrong with the carb. Plus when I was muddin one time, I hammered down a lil too hard and broke my peddle off and bent the pedal stop. So every time i really hammered down after that I kind of ****************ed up the butterflies. Were the pics too big to send Jim? My email didn't receive any. As for a rats nest under my hood, that's only about half of the wiring that a stock 22re would have, and its pretty clean.

I just swapped a 7MG into my truck, and am looking to get rid of all the old engine parts, including the entire EFI system. I can also throw in the factory service manual to make the swap a little easier. I believe all you would need in terms of parts that I don't have is a EFI fuel pump. PM me if your interested

I have a weber 32/38 and love it. Easy to maintain, easy to tune, never had a lick of trouble with it. Highly suggest getting one. Weber is on my 2wd Yota.

I have also done the EFI swap. This is the best thing you can do to a carbed truck. No sputtering, no hard starting. Greatest thing in the world. I swapped the EFI into my 81 4x4. I found it easier to just get a complete EFI wiring harness instead of doing the patch work. I just adapted a 85 wiring harness with 81 plugs.

Couple things your gonna need.

Complete intake and throttle body,All air intake tubes, Air flow meter, Knock sensor (and a way to mount it), EFI tank (or external fuel pump that pushes 52 psi, or so), computer, wiring harness, efi coil/ignitor, exhaust manifold with o/2 sensor.

If your head doesnt have the efi holes also, you will need to get a new head or your will need to get an early celica lower intake manifold.

Its a pain getting the parts together but essentially its a pretty easy swap.

Gain a bit of power from the EFI. While you have the motor apart put a cam in it.
