NO ROCK CRAWLING HERE JUST SOME MUDDY CONDITIONS TIME TO TIME. WITH THAT IN MIND WHAT TYPE OF MODIFICATIONS WOULD YOU DO. I AM RUNNIG 31'S ON IT NOW, JUST PUT AN ENGINE IN IT (93 3.0)HAVE NOT HAD IT LONG BUT HEY THE PRICE WAS RIGHT I HAVE LESS THAN 1K IN THE WHOLE DEAL. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY HELPFUL. THANKS:beer:

SAS's are done primarily for strength, and also it is easier and cheaper to lift a solid axle vehicle than an IFS one.

For your uses IFS should be just fine.

Larger tires, a body lift and/or a mild suspension lift are possibilities you can consider.

dont waste money on an IFS lift. put a small body lift on and get some bigger tires and learn to wheel with what u have.

I myself have a trail rig/street rig that also won't see any monster boulders but will do everything else including all the camping I expect to do this coming winter......an 87 Runner with an auto with 33x10.50 all terrains with 571 gears with a rear Detroit Softlocker.........lift is simple and cheap....in my case, pretty much free cause I did some fabbing.
In the front, I cranked the torsion bars....about 10 full turns yields 1.5" lift and took it to SEARS to have them re-align it. I must say I was impressed with the computerized equipment they used.
The rear was free but more work intensive. The rear packs, like almost all older Runners, were sagging and resting on the overload leaf. So I fabbed up a control lift system with a Jeep TJ coil I had laying around....gave me almost 4" of lift. I won't tell you how soft it rides now. http://zuk.tripod.com/dadcoil.htm
If street characteristics are a priority then it is best to keep the IFS. As long as all the ball-joints are tight and all is aligned correctly, the IFS will be superior on the pavement. All bets are off in the rocks though.
Now you might tr crankin the bars and get it re-aligned in the front. You might not want to do the fabbing I did in the rear.....there are alternate ways to lift the rear. add-a-leaf......shackles....blocks.....
body lifts too.
