I want to mount these 6x9's in my 1984 4-Runner, to the sides of the rear seats (instead of the far rear stock area). I need some tips for this.
If it's possible?
How to start?
Where to put them?
What to look out for?
Can this be done to the front door as well?
It appears as though the right side doesn't have much room for them with the gas tank spigot area sectioned off. I've a jigsaw, now what?

do you have the cup holders/storage baskets next to the seats? mine (88 sr5 4runner) has the storage baskets, i was thinking ot mounting 6x9s where those are but the hole is too big.

The first thing you will need to do is see how much room you need for your speakers, assuming you already have them, or see how much room you have to work with by pulling off the panels and checking out the space behind them.

THe big thing you are going to have to worry about is mounting depth, how far the speaker will stick out behind the panel when installed. you might also have to worry about mounting hight, how far the speaker sticks out in front of the panel when installed. this might interfere with folding the rear seats down.

Other than that i would say apply the #1 rule of carpentry, measure twice (or more) and cut once.

Good luck and tell us how it turns out.

You mount it with screws:kidding:

In my experience i would not mount them there. Everytime you go to put the back seat down you will fub against the grate of the speaker. And be careful of the wireing on the drivers side for the relay of the back window. My buddy put a set of 5 and a quaters right in ther on his runner. just out of reach of the seats.

I mounted a pair in the rear just behind the front seats, you will have to cut. My seats go down fine, you will hve to reroute some wires if you use the same location. It was the best location I could find. Blaze

Do you have pics or can you measure exactly where you cut to mount them?
