Hey Tobin,
I recently read that our land isn't safe, even with Bush in office. Bush is trying to sell off all the "unwanted" BLM land he can to fund other "environmentally sensitive" areas for the huggers. Looks like it doesn't matter who you vote for...we're gonna lose the land either way. Look what has already happened in Moab with both Helldorado trails and the area above the Moab Rim trail...gone to the highest bidder (who was very likely the ONLY bidder). I just can't believe they can just sell off our land that is used for recreation every day (definately every weekend). Are you telling me the BLM doesn't have enough land near Moab, that they have to sell some with one of the best trails in the country?

Your very misimformed here...
1. Bush isn't "selling" off the unwanted land... selling the "unmanagable land. If every wheeler gets active in the public lands battle... no harm will come our way.
2. U & L Helldorado were SITLA property, not owned by the Federal government for a hundred years.. anyone with $$$ can submit an application to purchase the property.
3. There were several bidders on the Upper Property
4. The land at the top of Moab Rim has been private property for ages, the old owner finally got approved to build his "dream" tram... went bankrupt on the deal, and the current owner, bought it at auction. Even he CANNOT gate the property as it is a plain and clear RS2477 and 10yr State Statute eligible road.
4. "Existing trails" on BLM land cannot be shut because someone buys the property... the exact reason Strike Ravine is still open on the Lower Helldorado property.
5. The BLM hasn't sold any land near Moab for years...

Good info, Kurt...I stand corrected.
ALTHOUGH
1. What does the Govt. define as "unmanagable" land? My guess is probably a well-used hardcore trail that they just don't have the resources to patrol (like upper/lower Heldorado and many others). The Govt.'s idea of "unmanagable" is probably ALOT different than ours. That article made it pretty clear that they need the funds from those sales to satisfy the greenies. Isn't that exactly what we DON'T want?
2. Sure anyone can submit an application (and I'm sure several have over all those years), but it doesn't mean it will be approved. So, why was this application any different? Why was it auctioned off in the 1st place?
4.b. This is good news to hear. Does that mean the guy who "attacked" that girl near Strike can't legally close off lower Heldorado? I heard that he closed the trail immediately after buying the prop.

They didn't even submit an application for the land... SITLA sells land two times a year... they pick the parcels out of hat (not exactly sure how they choose)... The LH property flew right over our heads... as you can see with the UH property, we are now all over it... we now get notices of all impending sales, etc... SITLA (School Trust Lands) uses the money to fund school buildings in Utah State... hence why the government allows them to regularly sell the land...

Illegally closed... San Juan County is suing them right now over a related issue.. people have been running both Stike Ravine, Coyote Canyon, U & L Helldorao since... :D
