I just bought a 1973 FJ40. I've always wanted one, but what i really need to know is the best way to lift it. I want to do a spring over on it, but i've heard that a spring over can have its downfalls. What are they? And there arent very many lifts available for it with a spring under. It'll be hard to get over 3 inches of lift without having shackle lift. Secondly i need to know who i can talk to about steering components when i choose to do a spring over. Any help is great. Thanks.
p.s i need an exhaust manifold for my '85 toy, that or a really cheap header.

You can get up to a 6" lift without going spring over (Alcan)
There are many pro's and con's to the SOA, I love mine...

I have done numerous SOA conversions on 40's... never an unhappy customer...

I love my SOA. Andre did a good job of compiling info on the link Kurt put up. Read it. It's a good education even if you decide to wuss out and use lift springs. :D
For steering I'd go with 4x4 labs steering arms and sag box. Works great.

The major drawback to SOA or any big lift is its a PIA climbing in and out. And you destroy the left side of the driver's seat sliding out of the truck. I've trashed at least three seats on the driver's side.
