just wondering in your opinion if something like yj front coils in the rear of a truck or leaf sprung suspension is better because i am thinking about putting coils in and didnt know if it was a good idea.....expense, travel, drivablilty wise

thanks

dood ill answer ur post honestly.

leafs is a one shot thing u install em and they are durable long lasting suspension

coils are flimsy and flexy. they sqeak and make other odd noises.

also with coils u got to buld 3or4 link suspension. if u do not know what this is then id suggest springs as well, but its ur choice. u can find anything u want on the internet so u can look up what u need and if ur gonna use coils u dont need to buy expensive ones. a lot of ppl use aerostar ones or stock jeep cherokee ones for the front and rear and just mount them according to the height u want. the good thing about coils is u dont need a lot of height to get a lot of flex out of ur rig.

springs on the other hand u need some long springs and some tall ones to get a ton of flex out of em.

so i guess its up to u what ur idea of ur truck ur gonna do for the offroad part

onroad springs all the way. when wind comes and hits the side of ur rig with coils its like falling over if its a high vehicle by any means.

i currently have springs on my truck wiht about 12 inches of lift and in flexes great and my freinds prefer springs, but we are exploring coils as of now.

and if u ment coil overs then plan on spending the range of 2000 for ur suspension then add time and labor onto ur 4link ull need

my friend has a 4 link with coils has about 600 bucks into it and flexes and rides 1000000 times better than leaves. as for sway it is less than what is leaf springs where. hei think 2 in tj springs on the 4 runner and it isnt high at all.

Leaf Springs vs coils. Wow, this is a battle. I currently run springs but have done work on coils and seen incredible flex out of both. The labor is very similar, but you will spend a little more time working out the control arms with the coils. In my opinion, if you do the job right, you should be able to get very comparable flex out of leaf springs as you do coils. One key to super flex on leaf is definately long leaf springs, but I personaly don't think it has to be insanely high to get good articulation. The key is doing it right! Take your time and make sure you figure out your driveline angles and lenght as that in my opinion is half the battle when you are doing any suspension work, leaf springs or coils. Good luck.

I'm in the same boat as you are. Thinking bout running coils just because the links are tunable. I really don't like the hopping I get when trying to climb rock ledges. With the links in the right spots, I can get rid of that. Plus with coils, you don't have 30 inches of frame behind your rear axle. That means you can move your axle anywhere and get awsome approach/departure angles. But on the other hand. Leaves are A LOT easier to do. It is pretty hard to get a perfect setup with coils.

If I did it over I would go Coils. 100%. But I go wheeling all the time, the advantage to coils is no spring wrap. I have wasted a few R&P in the rear due to spring wrap...with 4 link you have no spring wrap. Coils are cheap and work really really good. I have alcan springs right now....they cost me $480. I could have had coils for about the same cost. I will post two photos for you...one is leaf and one is coils. Very close.....Good luck
