I just put the 5in Skyjacker softride suspension on my truck and i was wondering by putting a long travel shock on would that increase travel or is the long travel shock only made for something that already has a lot of travel?
Also with X over steering would that increase my travel in the front signifigantly?
Thanks

get some taller shock towers (ford shock towers are cheapest I've heard, if you can weld) as well as your lift springs, then get some long shocks. You can measure for the length of shocks by flexing your suspension and measuring the compressed and extended length (eye to eye) you need. Yes, get crossover

thanks............................anymore
i just put long travel shocks on my truck.
fronts have 20 inches of travel total and the rear is 17.5 inches total
front measuer compressed 30 inches and extended at 50 inches,
rear measure 28 compressed and 45 extended roughly.
the best way to do it is buy ur shocks first and either ramp ur vehicle and like they guy before said measure what travel u get and then buy shocks accordingly or buy ur shocks now and then plan on building hoops around ur shocks. i messed up in the rear and build the hoop first and thought i measured right, ERRRRRROR wrong. i have a ugly looking double hoop in my truck bed now.
but the front i bought tube and got in bent into almost a 180 bend so its like a upside down u and it was 6 foot tall hoop.(almost goes threw my hood) then i used the the measurement from my shock mount on the axle and could figure it out what i wanted my truck to flex at.
for example. my front shocks sit level at around 43 inches. so this allowes 7 inches of up travel and 13 down travel. i did this for the rear but like i said i messed up my hoop in rear and have to do it over again
ford shock towers is a bandaid if u ask me. ull be redoing it again downt he road.
rule #1 do it right the first time.
so if u dont want ur shocks to tower threw ur bed or threw ur hood id get a good measurement ow the length front ur axle shock mount to where u want it to sit on ur frame and then buy shocks and make hoops according to the shocks
i got pics if u want to see what i did
