:Help:
I just did a motor swap, I put an 85 22RE motor, harnesses, etc etc into an 85 that came with a 22R. Anyway, the truck was rolled, I got the truck running and pulled the motor, I just figured it was in good working order. I don't know if it's not running right from before I tore it out, or after I tore it out, I was gently with the motor while I was pulling it, didn't yank on any wires or anything. Anyway, the problem I'm having is that It will run fine, then I will rev it up, it revs fine, but when I let go of the gas, the RPMs fall WAY down ...less than 300 RPM's, then it will go back up to 1000 RPM's and fluctuate inbetween there, and eventaully it just dies because it went too low. The rolled truck it came was last registered in 1999, so I'm thinking that's when it happened. I've put new gas in is, does anyone have any ideas? I've already played with the TPS and disconnected the cold start injector, the TPS works, since the timing retards and advances when I turn it. I also tried putting the jumper in the plug (I guess that makes it bypass the computer) that really didn't help either. I was thinking it could POSSIBLY be fouled injectors, but I really don't know. Any help would be appreciated.

well in my past exp when u got a problem with jumpin idle but it runs fine throught the fears
fuel filter all the way.
also did u change out the fuel tanks or keep ur original. if u didnt change ur fuel tank u need to that might help
22re has the fuel pump in the tank, not on the block if u did not know
also check ur distributor fireing order and ur cap and dist. if its cracked or water got in there and rusted out. im assuming u kep the original cap and rotor on the truck
if it was me id start with a gooood tuneup, which includes
new : oil, oil filter, air filter, dis cap and rotor, dist. wires, spark plugs, fuel filter and maybe most likely a fuel pump ( inside the gas tank if its a 22re)
if u need anything else let me know
donovan
some other guys are saying check ur vacuum hoses really well as well

Like someone else said, it sounds like a vacuum hose, or just general tune up items.
One question though: You said you checked the TPS, and the timing retards and advances when you rev the throttle. Well, the tiiming should only advance when you rev, it should NOT retard first (or at all). If this is happening I would suspect a bad TPS.

Attilia~
I did change out the fuel tank (drained it completely also), along with every wiring harness in the truck ...I basically took one truck , took pretty much everything off of it that I could, and then put it in another truck. The fuel pump does work, I already went through that problem when I was getting it to run before I tore the truck apart originally, I bought a used one. The distributor firing order is correct, I changed the cap, rotor, and wires out for the ones that were on the 22R, which I know were in good working order.
The engine recovers from revs better when it is just started than when it has warmed up for a minute. That sounds like the fuel filter is a likely cause, since it runs worse once the cold start injector is injecting less fuel. I won't be able to get to it for a couple days. I have too much homework the next couple nights.

The engine advances or retards, depending on how much I turn the TPS, it doesn't do both. Sorry for the confusion.
I charged the battery fully with a trickle charger also, and that didn't fix the problem either.

the PCV valve and new fuel filter didn't do it either. I also adjusted the TPS (TPS does work, when you put the jumper in the circuit, you can hear a noticible difference in the way the motor runs) and set the timing with the jumper in the circuit.
It will idle smoothly, then when you rev it up, depending on how high you rev it, and then let go of the gas pedal all at once, the RPMs will either fall below the set idle (750-800) and come back up and level out. If you rev it really high, around 4000 RPM+, the RPMs will fall too low and it will die. After it dies and I try to start it back up, it will start up, sit at idle for a slipt second, and will die again unless I press the gas pedal.
I'm getting pretty sick of this. I have the cap/rotor/wires from my 22R motor that was running correctly, on it. Does anyone have any further ideas? It sounds to me like it's a vacuum leak, but I can't seem to find it if that's what it is.

edit: I let it sit for 30 minutes to cool off after it got up to operating temp, and then re-started it. It behaved normally for the first 30 seconds or a minute or so, and started acting up again. The first 30 seconds I was able to rev the engine up, let off, and the RPMs wouldn't drop below idle. After the period of time, it acted as I described above. I have no idea, but it's coming along...slowly
edit EDIT: same thing as "edit" after been sitting for a few hours and completely cold. runs good for 30 seconds, then crappy after that

Check your tps, mass air meter and definitely vacuum
