I just installed a header on my 85 Runner with a 22r-e now under part throttle acceleration I get the annoying whistleing sound coming from the header area. I have checked for exhaust leaks and have none. I think it is more annoying than anything. Anyone ever heard of this happening??? Thanks

Are you absolutely positive, I thought the same thing but had a hole right next to the bolts (where it bolts to the rest of the exhaust) and it was right next to that heat shield so your hand couldn't feel it at all if it was right next to it. Or it could just be somthing in the header itself. Lots of different things.

You either have an exhaust leak or a vacum leak .

It would have to be a pretty major vacum leak to hear a loud whistling, and your idle/braking might be all funky crazy

I think it must be a leak in the header or manifold. I had similar issues right around the bolts. Double check those, but be careful not to strip them out of the block.

Sounds like the majority points to the header/manifold. I will pull it of and inspect for cracks or holes in the collector ect and install a new gasket. It sounds to me like it is coming from the collector. Any more input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

turbovee----how come you don't crawl under there and feel for the leak?

No, you won't get burned. With engine cold, position yourself under there...have your hands in place.....make sure you can feel everything good......with parking brake on and neutral, have ANOTHER person start it up.....you have 5 seconds to finger the leak....5 seconds should be more than enough time.

Thanks for the help eveyone. It turns out i had the wrong manifold gasket installed and it was leaking on the bottom side of the header flange. I re-did the whole exhaust system and it sounds perfect now. Thanks again eveyone:beer: :Rockonman
