I just bought a V6 3rd and need new gears. I saw a couple of posts on Pirate that only Precision makes the actually V6 gear sets. But I saw that Yukon also carries them, but are these actually V6 gears or 4cyl. gears shimmed to fit? Who has the cheapest prices on the V6? The cheapest I found was $110 for Yukons.

Yes, people do use 4 cyl gears and shim them. I assume they would work OK if done properly.

I know they use 4cyl. in the V6 but I want actual V6 gears.

You, might try www.drivetraindirect.com they carry high quality Superior brand gears and have everybody beat (price wise:D ) by a wide margin. I myself saved quite a bit when I regeared my truck!........Hans
Yes, Yukon has a true V6 gear. I just got some for my e-locker rear, installed with no shims on the carrier. I got 'em at Rocklogic for $185. That was $10 more than the 4cyl. Now, I've heard that Yukon sells 2 different "grades" of gears. The good ones are US Gear (like mine), and the cheap ones are...sumthin'. I would be suspicious of any gears that cost $110. I was gonna get the Precisions because I wanted the best gears available, but Rocklogic talked me into the Yukons saying they've had better luck with them. They compete in UROC, so I took their word for it.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. Some vendor on Pirate has the Yukon's for $110.
Josh-----SUV is right about the $110 and the cheaper grade of gear that Yukon offers as an "option". They are garbage(the cheaper grade).
By the way, I have a brand new set(only 1 set) of V6 5.29 gears.....these are US GEAR brand and they really are V6 gears with the bigger head.
Also by the way, I have some real mixed feelings if the so-called V6 gears are really any stronger than the 1979-85 4 cyl gears. As an example, my 1992 white stock 4 cyl Toyota came with "V6" gears right from the factory....so did all the other 4 cyl Yotas(86~95).
A thing to note is that although the pinion head is a little bigger, the ring gear seems no different than the 79-85 version.......also, the V6 version uses a "shorter" pinion bearing......I have been thinking that part of the strength in a ring/pinion design is to have a hefty main pinion bearing....a big one......and the older 79-85 ones are bigger. But who knows for sure. I don't.
Anyways, back on track, I have one. 170 cash it's yours. I will post some pics/link in the morning.
I lost my old website...started a new one but lost some of the more recent gear installs but recovered the others. http://zukaz.tripod.com

Ok I am looking for gears still. I don't wanna go w/ the cheapo Yukons, so I looked for the next cheapest gear. I found Sierra gears from Cruiser Outfitters for pretty cheap. But is Sierra an actuall V6 gear?
Sierra is like Yukon - rebadged gears from other makers. If they are rebadged US gears (I think maybe), then yes they have a V6 gear.

Do you still have these?:Help:
Josh----I still have them. Brand new. They're yours for 170. They are the best....US GEAR and actual V6 version. Bring the chunk to me and no set-up charge......unless you already have someone else in mind. Bring a pinion seal. I have the rest.
