ok so i baught a used bottom end and put a rebuilt head on to that thing w/ new timing chain parts and new gaskets through the whole thing. now about 2300 miles later my front mail oilk seal goes out. i used a marlin crawler clutch but just the one w/ the better disk, not a stiffer pressure plate. any ideas why it would fail so soon after rebuild?? thanx for the time.:Rockonman

the balancer surface gets a "groove" worn in it from the seal. you can feel it w/ your fingernail. there is a kit to put a very thin sleeve on it. the kit is cheap. i know johns foreign engine stocks it and i think cost is 20 or so.

i have replaced mine a few times. If the Seal is old or dry, it can leak. I rebuilt my motor, and within 20k, I had replaced all my seals, just had a bad seal kit.
I would check for grooves also and check were the seal is riding for proper placement. Also check and see if your Bolt is tight. The torque spec is very specific on the H/B.

clutch, what brand of kit did you buy?? i used fel-pro on all except for the head gasket. also what other seals did you end up replacing? should i watch any thing specific?? i did end up using one of the sleeves and i got a new seal as long as i was there. it seams to be sealing up now so i will keep my fingers crossed. another question that i had was that i know that the 22re motors have alot of vibration in them, would anyone recomend re-tourquing other points?? thanx again for all the help.:Rockonman
