remember the lower axle ratio the smaller the pinion. i would go 5.43s or there abouts and then get a dual case.

I've got a 9" rear and HP44 front, and have 5.13s with 36 inch swampers. I don't think I 'd go lower than 5.29s, but there's alot of guys who do. You're probably going to want to do a dual case, because you really can't gain too much with only R&P gearing.

1 big thing im takeing into concideration is ford 9" is used a lot in drag raceing (super strong) so for people to make R&P as low as in the 6:00's for drag's they must be super strong. on that note i have never seen a car with a 1000 hp drag raceing a toyota rear:no no: F.Y.I i just talked to CURRIE ENTERPRISES and the said they have cars with 700 horse power running on 7:33 gear ratios:eek: and the guy also said that the pinion head on them is 5" in dia. where as a toy pinion head is like 2 or 3" max the guy said " toyota r&p look like shaveing kits compared to toyota's r&p" so strenght is not a worry. just what gear ratio? off road only. 38"tires

In the case of Ford 9 inch stuff......bigger ring/pinion numbers equal bigger strength. Kinda goes against the norm, doesn't it? 6.50 gears would be a good choice for 38" tires.......I run 5.89 gears with 36" tires but mine is just a Dana44.

Does anybody remember the "project 875" axles and what ever happened to them? They were Chrysler 8 3/4" center sections grafted onto Toyota housings. Way strong and looked totaly stock, if you didn't know better..........Hans
