hey how do i tell what gear ratio my 85 front axle is i have it sitting in my driveway ready for sas and i have no idea what the gear ratio is... when i turn the pinion it turns 2 1/4 times for every revolution of the wheel if that means anything. thanks for any help

Sounds like you probably have 4.56s, and you are only turning one wheel while the other is staying put (2.25 x 2 = 4.50) With both wheels turning (hubs locked), count the pinion revolutions for one wheel rotation. This is the ratio. If you take the third member out, count the teeth on the ring gear and divide by teeth on the pinion gear.

it is real hard to tell the difference between a few tenths by counting rotations. if you pull the member it is stamped on the ring gear. even though you don't plan on pulling it, it may be a good idea to check.
