View Full Version : shocks
Anyone have any suggestions for some nice smooth riding shocks for my gf's 82 pickup. Mostly street/ highway driving some forest service roads , and it's bouncy as hell. Anyone tried replacing springs w/ greasable ones, etc?

You didn't mention your budget, but the new Rancho RS9000X's are a great shock. You would be able to adjust for the ride you want for the conditions your driving. Just a quick turn and you can go from firm to soft and back.

sounds like you and I share similar driving habits an occasional off pavement excursion;) I went with rancho rs 5000 on the front (IFS) and rear.and am still running factory leaves on the rear with 3" lift blocks
it rides and handles fairly well ,I'm happy with it for now:rolleyes:

Do not buy Rancho. I had some RS5000 on my p/u and they sucked. They lasted less than 6 months before the took a chit. Pro Comp's are cheap as hell and are really good.
i have a set of rs5000's on my pavement pounding blazer, and they do fairly well controling the springs, but i wouldnt put a set on the toyota.

Go with pro-comp, I tried out the exp3000 but didn't really like how soft they were, so I went with the 8000 or is it 9000, whatever the step up from the 3000's is. and they work great. This is on an 85 4runner with 35" tires. And some pretty soft leafs.

Actually, we do know his budget. If he's been with his woman long enough to refer to her as his "GF", then his budget is as cheap as possible. :D
I've been real happy with my Pro Comp 3000s, and paid about 120 for the set from 4wheelparts.

Ok, thanks for all the replies... I'm starting to wonder if I might need to do something with the springs as well. I have a fairly heavy canopy (300 lbs+) and when I am traveling at highway speeds over roads with consistent breaks in it, I get this forward and back rocking motion which is pretty annoying. This is on a longbed w/31" tires, and stock suspension. I put a pair of rancho 9000x's on the front, and the problem doesnt go away no matter what settind they're on. Maybe the springs are sagged enough that i'm hitting the bump stops? Should I just put longer shackles on? New springs? Anyone tried the 2" "softride" springs from NWOR? Thanks
